Wingham resident Lucy Hobgood-Brown has lived and worked in 9 countries. She is America-born and Africa-raised. She came to Australia about 25 years ago with her husband Kevin, after working most of her career in Asia. Her Manning Valley projects have included facilitating two cultural festivals (Africa comes to the Manning) and the resettlement of Congolese refugees.
Now retired, Lucy is co-founder of HandUp Congo, a small non-profit that focuses on community development projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she grew up.
Lucy has masters’ degrees in international communication and international social development and is the first to say that she’s followed no career plan. She’s happily led an eclectic life, working as a journalist, PR practitioner, university lecturer and community development consultant. She is an active Rotarian, and in 2015 was named Global Woman of Action by Rotary International at the United Nations.
