Maura Luxford - Writer-Speaker-Storyteller and agent for change

  • Club Taree 121 Wingham Road Taree, NSW, 2430 Australia (map)

Maura shares her vision to create change, her 1800 km horse ride from Kempsey to Melbourne, and the reason that drove her to do this.

Ordinary moments can change the course of our lives.

Maura’s story is testament to that and has become the first of her published books ride4acure Origin Story (published 2024).

The catalyst for ride4acure was the loss of her eldest daughter Hannah at 20 to melanoma.

Maura shares her story of coming out the other side of every parent's worst nightmare on fire with a vision to create change.

With hope, love, resilience and grit Maura shares how she found the strength to undertake three long distance treks over thousands of miles across rural and remote Australia on a push bike and horses.

Maura shares how a seed took root in her heart to ride4acure.

About the author and speaker:  Maura calls the Macleay Valley home and has spent over thirty years working in community development and education and raising her family there on Dunghutti Country.  When not at her day job, she's planting habitat trees, growing flowers and food, sipping tea, watching birds and wildlife in her abundant garden or off on a motorbike adventure.

For her social and community work she was voted:

  • Oxley Woman of the Year 2013

  • Woman of the Macleay Award 2012

  • Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2012

  • Peter Mac Community Volunteer Award 2010

  • Inducted into the International Long Rider Guild for solo packhorse ride with Meg, Billy and Wrangler riding solo over 1800 kms unassisted from Kempsey to Melbourne through western NSW & VIC

Her greatest achievement in life is being Mum to Hannah, Esther and Joe. Humans she's proud of.
