Greg Blaze – Lived Experience in Israel/West Bank

  • Club Taree 121 Wingham Road Taree, NSW, 2430 Australia (map)

*Meeting date Note: due to coinciding with Anzac Day, our April meeting is to be moved to May 2.

Our April (in May) Speaker: Greg Blaze - UNRWA Engineer:

Some of you may recall Greg speaking to us about his time in Mogadishu, Somalia some years back. Greg has experienced several placements as a humanitarian engineer in conflict ravaged locations.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is an organisation charged with providing humanitarian relief and development for over five million refugees worldwide. Greg Blaze is an Australian – Mid North Coast local - engineer and surfer, keen on adventure. While based in the turbulent city of Jerusalem as an UNRWA engineer in 2018 - rich in both ancient history and contemporary religious significance - Greg brings a first-hand account of life in the region.

“Israel and Palestine - the ongoing conflict between two groups focused on attaining sovereignty for their people in the Middle East. The trouble is - they want the same patch of ground.”

The interaction of Israel and the West Bank provides the backdrop for an outsider's glimpse of the reality of day-to-day life in this conflicted space. Working with the Palestinians and living with the Jews, Greg Blaze has a unique opportunity to observe the conflict from both perspectives.
