Our July Speaker – Dr Anne Knight OAM:
Dr Anne Knight was the only Mid Coast resident on the 2024 Australia Day Honours list. She was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for “services to medicine through a range of roles” and those roles are many and varied within the medical profession.
The local community has been fortunate to have had the service of Dr Anne Knight since 1992. She has worked as a physician both privately and at the hospital and she regards the relationship with patients as very special.
Another facet of her career has been in training and promoting the value of providing medical care in rural areas. Her many professional positions over the years have included some very prestigious roles. She cites her 2020-2022 presidency of the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand as a big career highlight.
Although no longer seeing patients, she still engages in community and governance work at the hospital. Her legacy of providing medical service to the community and passing on her vast knowledge to the next generation will be part of the foundation of ongoing valuable rural medical care.
There are many more professional ‘feathers’ in Dr Anne Knight’s cap over a career she considers a privilege that will make for an inspiring and interesting evening.
